R&D Intensities in the EU

Following the relaunch of the Lisbon strategy in 2005, Member States were invited to translate the 3% R&D investment intensity target into individual national targets. However these national targets added up to only 2.5% ofthe EU GDP. This note presents some background information on
- the state of play and evolution of R&D intensity in the 27 Member States, with a highlight on the progress achieved towards national targets;
- a statistical projection of national R&D intensities until 2020, based on recent trends, and
- some initial conclusions.
