The World in 2025
created on 31 Aug 2009
This report is based on the contributions of the Foresight Expert Group "The World in 2025". The objectives of this group were first to assess and measure global trends over recent decades, to serve as a basis for forward projections. Secondly, the group was asked to generate and analyse alternative scenarios of world trends up to 2025, based on specified assumptions about economic, political, social, environmental and technological developments, in order to assess their consequences for the EU and to examine which policy responses could be appropriate.
There will also be a seminar on 24 september 2009 benefitting from the inputs of this expert group.
A second report focuses on "Rising Asia and Socio-ecological Transition". It underlines the major future trends such as geopolitical transformations (in terms of population, economic development, international trade and poverty). It also identifies the likely tensions concerning issues like natural resources, migration or urbanisation. Finally, it defines possible transitional pathways.
