European Council
The European Council is the highest political body of the European Union. Assembling the heads of state or government, the president of the European Council and the president of the European Commission, it deals with major issues and defines the general political guidelines. This institution is chaired by the member state which holds the Presidency. Meetings take place two to four times a year. Every March there is a special meeting dedicated to Lisbon Strategy issues.
