Conclusions of the European Council of 17 June 2010

At its meeting on 17 June 2010, the European Heads of State and Government adpoted "Europe 2020", a new strategy for jobs and smart, sustainable and inclusive growth. It constitutes a coherent framework for the Union to mobilise all of its instruments and policies, and for the Member States to take enhanced coordinated action. The Heads of State and Government reaffirmed their collective determination to ensure fiscal sustainability, including accelerating plans for fiscal consolidation where warranted. The European Council also confirmed its commitment to ensuring financial stability by addressing the gaps in the regulation and supervision of financial markets, both at the level of the EU and the G20. Finally members fully agreed on the urgent need to reinforce the coordination of economic policies. They agreed on first orientations as regards the Stability and Growth Pact and budgetary surveillance, as well as broader macroeconomic surveillance.
