ERAC (formerly CREST)
ERAC (European Research Area Committee) is the new name for CREST, the advisory body assisting the Council of the European Union and the European Commission in the field of research and technological development. It was created through a new mandate for CREST which was decided by the Council in May 2010. The main mission of ERAC is to provide strategic input on any research and innovation issue relevant to the development of ERA.
Originally CREST was set up in 1974 by a Council Resolution which was replaced by a new resolution in 1995. CREST members are the European Commission and Member States of the European Union. The following Candidate Countries and Associated Countries are invited as observers: Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia, Faroe Islands, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Iceland, Israel, Liechtenstein, Moldavia, Montegnegro, Norway, Serbia, Switzerland and Turkey.
ERAC is chaired by the European Commission.
