Expert Group on the Future of Networks of Excellence

The Expert Group on the future of Networks of Excellence (NoEs) was set up in the beginning of 2008. The overall objective was to provide recommendations on how to optimise the objectives, modalities, and implementation of NoEs under the wider perspective of structuring the European Research Area.

The NoE Expert Group delivered their Final Report on 30 September 2008. The group  underlined the integration and dissemination role of NoEs and concluded that some achievements of NoEs are worth maintaining. However, the Group stressed also the difficulties of integrating a large number of partners, the low investment of Member States and the impact on the organisational management. Though they are in favour, as options for the future, of limited support to several well-integrated NoEs.
