ENERGY KIC Proposal
created on 18 Mar 2009
Graz University of Technology intends to establish a Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) in the framework of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT).
The KICs are highly integrated partnerships that bring together excellence from the worlds of higher education, research, innovative business and enterprises. They will be drivers of innovation in fields that pose major societal challenges, and they will carry out the EIT's actual research, teaching and innovation work.
The EIT - ENERGY KIC Proposal focuses on climate change mitigation and sustainable energies. The idea is to link regions and sustainable technologies with the help of future-oriented energy solutions.
The vision of the project is to develop Europe into the front-runner in terms of sustainable energy technologies, by means of effectively utilising all available renewable resources via advanced, regionally adapted, socially and economically profitable solutions.
The EIT - ENERGY KIC Proposal has the following far-reaching objectives:
- Establishment of a European Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) in the fields of renewable energies and climate change mitigation and adaptation. Integration of existing clusters, competence centres and networks in the framework of the EIT - ENERGY KIC Proposal, in order to develop advanced sustainable energy technologies and support their implementation.
- Establishment of a one-stop European knowledge hub to solve strategic problems regarding sustainable energy technologies, their adaptations to regional settings,
- Establishment of a European platform of higher education for renewable energies and climate change mitigation and adaptation, in order to provide European research institutions, industry and European regional development agencies with a highly educated workforce to achieve a fundamental change in the energy system.
- Linking regional stakeholders with European industry and the most advanced European science and research groups, in order to achieve a quantum leap in technological excellence and the successful implementation of sustainable energy solutions.
