Mobility
created on 10 Mar 2009
The Austrian mobility promotion landscape is highly diverse, and with 8 institutes implementing the various programmes, it is becoming increasingly fragmented. The main institutions are the Austrian Agency for International Cooperation in Education and Research (OeAD-GmbH), the Austrian Science Fund (FWF), the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW) and the federal ministries with responsibility for research. Research establishments themselves also encourage exchange activities and the resulting qualification of scientific personnel, e.g. the ARC and its grant programme.
Promotion of international mobility of researchers and scientists (across border as well as across sectors) contributes considerably to the design of the European Research Area and is necessary for the sustainability of the competitiveness of Europe. Mobile Researchers in Europe are facing numerous obstacles: language barriers, lack of information about research funding or different legal- and social security systems.
EURAXESS Austria provides access to current and comprehensive information on all questions essential to the mobility of researchers and their families. This site gives researchers essential information on career opportunities and assistance, including research job opportunities, grants and fellowships, as well as practical information on living and working in Austria. Information on cultural issues and FAQs are provided. A special section is devoted to Women in Science. This portal is part of the EU-initiative “EURAXESS – Researchers in Motion” and interlinked to EURAXESS portals of other countries. The Austrian Database for Scholarships and Research Grants is the most comprehensive online database in Austria concerning all research areas. Inner-Austrian grant options for students, graduates and researchers as well as incoming (to Austria) and outgoing (from Austria to ...) grants are offered in this database. Moreover, research allowances, prizes and other funding opportunities can be found. Information is given including details of application conditions (application deadline and place) as well as on duration, allocation and financing of each grant. The continuous updating of the database is undertaken both by the Austrian Agency for International Cooperation in Education and Research (OeAD-GmbH) and directly by grant-awarding institutions, which guarantees that the data is up-to-date.
