Sparkling Science
created on 23 Mar 2009
Sparkling Science exclusively funds projects that integrate schoolchildren as active and equal partners in research teams. Instead of arranging settings in which children learn from researchers, it arranges settings in which researchers learn from children. The programme has been implemented for the decade of 2007 - 2017. It is open to all research areas and all types of schools. Its budget is € 3 million per year. 7,100 school students are working in the 67 Projects of Sparkling Science.
Sparkling Science has three programmatic objectives:
- Funding state-of-the-art research that is linked to research activities at the European level
- Encouraging new research models that combine the scientific competence of scientists with the creativity of children
- Closing the gap between education and research by creating a network of school-university partnerships.
