FWF Special Research Programmes
The objective of the Special Research Programmes (SFB) of the Austrian Science Fund is the establishment of research networks based on international standards through autonomous research concentration at a single university location. They also aim at building up extremely productive, tightly interconnected research establishments for long-term and interdisciplinary work on complex research topics. The programmes target scientists of any discipline who are working in Austrian universities and non-profit-making, non-university research establishments.
The programmes require already available research potential. The nucleus of the scientists placing the application must be sufficiently large and well qualified to be able to establish and run a research programme of international standing within the scientific profile of the participating research institution(s). Allocations are made once a year by the FWF Board, based on an international review process.
