StartClim
created on 01 Jul 2009
In spring 2002 the so-called AustroClim initiative started its activities. Then AustroClim funded StartClim, a flexible and small-sized programme to address climate impacts in Austria, and to make recommendations for adaptation measures.
StartClim is extended on a year-to-year basis, with different scientific foci. StartClim 2003 was about extreme weather events and their impacts on Austria. StartClim 2004 focused on heat waves and droughts as well as on their impacts on Austria, while the focus in 2005 and 2006 was on health impacts and impacts on Austria's most vulnerable economies, e.g. tourism. In 2007, StartClim focused on the effects of climate change upon economy (summer tourism, energy production) and ecology (release of greenhouse gases). The main topic in 2008 was the adaptation to climate change.
