New alliance stresses importance of collaborative research for sustainable global progress

The European Research Alliance for Sustainable Development (ERASuD), comprising 12 leading European research organisations, has urged European policymakers to continue investing in long-term equitable research partnerships with Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) to effectively address global challenges. Launched on 22 November 2024, this call coincides with the EU's ongoing discussions about allocating up to €200 billion for FP10. ERASuD emphasises that the EU should prioritise research fostering science-driven policymaking across diverse areas such as climate change, biodiversity, environmental degradation, and economic inequality. Collaboration with LMICs' research institutions is essential, as outlined in the EU Global Gateway's strategy. At a European Parliament event in Brussels, attended by various stakeholders, leaders like Eloísa del Pino Matute, President of the CSIC, and Valérie Verdier, President of IRD, underlined the importance of collaborative research for sustainable global progress.
