PSF starts Country Review for Bulgaria to provide support for transforming its national research and innovation system
The European Commission's Policy Support Facility (PSF) has started a PSF Country review in Bulgaria, marking a significant step towards transforming its national research and innovation system. This new exercise is designed to support Bulgaria in identifying key policy levers and providing concrete recommendations to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of its R&I ecosystem.
The PSF Country will focus on three critical areas:
- Consolidation of R&I Actors: The review will offer concrete recommendations for consolidating key players within the R&I ecosystem, including strategies for adapting governance structures to improve coordination and collaboration.
- Regulatory and financial measures: To foster greater synergy, the PSF Country will explore and propose regulatory and financial strategies to encourage Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) and research organisations working in related fields to merge into larger, decentralised institutions.
- Consolidation of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences: The PSF Country will suggest approaches for consolidating various institutes within the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, aiming to maximise research output and its positive impact on the economy and society.
For each of these areas, the PSF Country will provide operational recommendations designed to boost the efficiency of Bulgaria’s public research institutions.
