On 9 January 2012 the European Commission submitted a report on "National Open Access and Preservation Policies in Europe: Analysis of a questionnaire to the European Research Area Comittee".
As highlighted by the then Commissioner for Research and Innovation Maire Geoghegan-Quinn in the Foreword, the report shows that open access is backed by a growing number of universities, research centres and funding agencies across Europe.
