European research institutions, industry and public funders are teaming up for a long-term research initiative that will enable Europe to lead science and technology developments to come up with the next generation of ultra-performing, sustainable and safe batteries. As a first step, the BATTERY 2030+ initiative is preparing a research roadmap with the main research areas identified to address the challenges and opportunities to develop the next-generation batteries:
• Accelerated discovery and design of battery materials and interfaces
• Smart sensing and self-healing functionalities
• Manufacturability and recyclability
