International March for Science to take place on 22 April 2017
On Saturday, 22 April 2017, scientists will gather worldwide to march for the cause of science and raise awareness for the importance of science for society. The march will take place in around 400 different locations in parallel. The movement originated in the US. The idea behind the initiative is to set a clearly visible sign in favour of the freedom and openness of science, to raise awareness for the concern that parts of society and policies are moving away from evidence-based decision-making, and that "post-factual" politics and scorn for experts are marginalising researchers politically.
The Science March is supported by various stakeholder organisations, such as for instance, the European University Association (EUA). The Science March in Vienna is supported by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Science, Research and Economy (BMWFW) and the Alliance of Austrian Science Organisations.
