EUA takes outlook on 2018
European University Association (EUA) President Rolf Tarrach and EUA Secretary General Lesley Wilson have outlined what the association considers to be priority issues for European universities this year. 2018 is the last year before the EP elections and the year when the Brexit negotiations need to be finalised. It will also be marked by the discussions on the next Multiannual Financial Framework, which will include the new Framework Programme for Research and Innovation and the new Erasmus Programme.
The EUA points out that at the end of 2017, higher education policy developed a new dynamic at European level, with the launch of the Education Union and, France promoting universities as a part of its vision for Europe. At the same time, 2018 will be the year of the Bologna Ministerial Conference in Paris, which will set the future agenda for the European Higher Education Area.
With regard to the new funding programmes, the EUA announces that it intends to step up its campaign for sufficient, sustainable, and simple EU funding for universities. For the Education Union and the Bologna Ministerial Meeting, EUA will promote initiatives that can facilitate university cooperation across borders and further the synergies between research, education, and innovation that only universities can provide.
