Cyprus’ Universities publish position paper on FP9
Cyprus’ Universities has presented a position paper on the next EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation. This paper reflects the opinions of all eight Cypriot universities in view of the discussion of the next EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation FP9. The Cypriot universities call for an increased overall budget of € 120 billion, with a larger budget share going to bottom-up programmes (ERC, MSCA, SME instrument) as well as to Widening programmes. Concerning the architecture of FP9, they back continuity of the three-pillar architecture, allowing, however, space for small collaborative projects (€ 1-4 million).
According to the paper, the integration of Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) across programmes should be enhanced as well as the creation of thematic calls in these research areas, with the provision of either mono-beneficiary or small-scale projects. Cyprus’ Universities welcome the integration of the European Innovation Council (EIC) for research-based and non-research-based innovation into FP9, under the Industrial Leadership pillar, with a full autonomy equivalent to the European Research Council (ERC). With regard to missions, Cyprus’ Universities support a limited number of missions (no more than 5) selected with caution, to avoid losing focus from other pressing challenges and priorities.
