Science Europe elects Rosa Menéndez as new Vice-President
Rosa Menéndez, president of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), has been elected as Vice-President of the Science Europe, an association of European Research Funding Organisations (RFO) and Research Performing Organisations (RPO), based in Brussels. Ms Menéndez joins President Marc Schiltz (Luxembourg National Research Fund – FNR), Vice-President Ingrid Petersson (Swedish Research Council for Sustainable Development – FORMAS) and the rest of the Governing Board in guiding the organisation
Spanish national Rosa María Menéndez López has been the President of CSIC since November 2017. She holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Oviedo (1986) and specialises in carbon materials in a large number of projects and publications. Amongst others, Professor Menéndez has previously held the positions of Vice-President of Scientific and Technical Research at CSIC (2008–2009), and Director of CSIC’s National Coal Institute in Oviedo (2003–2008). She has also been the organisation’s institutional delegate in Asturias, has evaluated and co-ordinated several EU R&D programmes, and managed the National Materials Plan and National Energy Plan.
