Presidency conference on "The new student" presents outcomes

The Austrian Presidency conference "The new student: flexible learning paths and future learning environments" took place on 20 and 21 September 2018 in Vienna. Opening addresses were given by Austrian Federal Minister Heinz Faßmann, EU Education Commissioner Tibor Navracsics, and Beate Huber, Chair of the Academic Board of the FH Wien, which was the conference venue.

The conference looked at how to support flexible learning, and what these developments mean for the future of higher education in Europe. It provided participants with an opportunity to discuss current trends in European higher education systems, and presented innovative examples of strategy and policy implementation and areas where further action is needed. Moreover, the event dealt with the question of how national governments and the European Union can provide assistance in this task. Selected good practices enhanced the discussion on approaches to solutions. Finally, the most important issues and recommendations of the parallel working groups, a thematic summary of the conference and recommendations based on the discussions in the working groups were presented to the participants.
