Business Europe stresses importance of agreement on Horizon Europe before EP elections
Business Europe, the Brussels-based association of national business federations, has sent a message to today's Competitiveness Council (Research) meeting calling on the Competitiveness Council to give a clear sense of urgency to agree on Horizon Europe before the upcoming European Parliament (EP) elections.
The association calls on Member States to speed up the discussions on the Specific Programme of Horizon Europe, to enable the European Commission (EC) to start preparing the implementation of the programm in time, pointing out that companies also need regulatory certainty to plan long-term projects. Business Europe also calls for increasing EU funding for Horizon Europe to at least € 120 billion to leverage the private investments required and address the EU's innovation deficit. The association also calls for strengthening the "Global Challenges and Industrial Competitiveness" pillar of the next Framework Programme, which, it states, should reach at least 60% of the total budget. Companies should also be actively involved in mission boards, partnerships and the strategic planning process.
