Research ministers support ERAvsCorona Action Plan
On 7 April 2020, EU research ministers held a videoconference in order to exchange views on how to respond to the COVID-19 crisis, including the financing of European research and innovation projects and the sharing of scientific data and infrastructure among research and innovation centres. EU Research Ministers expressed support for a „ERAvsCorona Action Plan“ including a first set of 10 actions which can be implemented at EU level in very short time period. The actions discussed focused on accelerating European work on a vaccine, better involve all Member States in clinical trials, the creation of a High Level Group R&I Task Force on corona virus with Member States' experts, boosting synergies of EU funds with national and regional funds, sharing of research data and results and engaging citizens in defining solutions.
Ministers also exchanged views on how EU research and innovation should respond to the medium and long-term effects of the crisis. They also discussed the important role of scientists in advising decision-makers.
The meeting was chaired by Blaženka Divjak, Minister of Research and Education of the Republic of Croatia and was also attended by the EU Commissioner Mariya Gabriel.
