61 start-ups and SMEs secure EIC support in latest round of EIC Accelerator
The European Innovation Council (EIC) has selected 61 highly innovative start-ups and SMEs for funding in its latest EIC Accelerator cut-off. Chosen from 121 interview-stage candidates, the companies will receive a mix of grant and equity support to scale transformative technologies with strong market potential. The total proposed support amounts to €467 million, with 85% of beneficiaries receiving blended finance.
The funded companies come from 17 EU Member States and Associated Countries, with the largest numbers based in France, Spain, Germany and Sweden. Notably, 28% of the selected firms are led by women in key leadership positions such as CEO, CTO or CSO.
The portfolio spans a wide range of breakthrough technologies. Examples include a system designed to deliver near real-time satellite insights and a graphene-based sensor platform for ultra-trace PFAS detection in the field.
Grant agreements are expected to be signed within three months, with equity investments to follow via the EIC Fund, often leveraging substantial additional private capital. A further 60 positively evaluated applicants will receive a Seal of Excellence, while 23 challenge applicants will be awarded a STEP Seal, helping them access alternative EU funding.
