EC's Call for evidence on European ocean research and innovation strategy is closing soon
The European Commission launched a call for evidence on 15 June 2026 to help shape its future European Ocean Research and Innovation (R&I) Strategy, a flagship initiative under the EU Water Resilience Strategy and the European Ocean Pact. This call will close on 2 August 2026.
The European Ocean Research and Innovation Strategy will build on the EU's research and innovation framework programme and, among others, its mission to restore our ocean and waters by 2030.
It aims to:
- improve the current governance of research and innovation by overcoming the fragmentation of initiatives, including research infrastructures;
- take a source-to-sea approach to addressing pollution and resource management issues.
It will also address the financing for further development and deployment of new knowledge and solutions.
The new strategy is designed to strengthen Europe’s leadership in ocean and water research, innovation and technology, while boosting competitiveness, resilience and strategic autonomy.
The Commission is inviting stakeholders to submit their views through the Have Your Say portal by 2 August 2026:
