EU invests over €307 million in artificial intelligence and related technologies
The European Commission has launched two new calls under the “Digital, Industry and Space” cluster of the Horizon Europe Work Programme, mobilising €307.3 million to strengthen Europe’s digital innovation and technological sovereignty.
The first call, worth €221.8 million, targets the development of trustworthy artificial intelligence (AI) services, innovative data solutions and technologies that reinforce EU strategic autonomy. It will support projects advancing the EU’s Apply AI Strategy, as well as work in robotics, quantum technologies, photonics and virtual worlds. Over €40 million is earmarked for the “Open Internet Stack Initiative” to develop both end‑user applications and core stack technologies underpinning European sovereign digital commons.
A second call, with a budget of €85.5 million, will foster open strategic autonomy in digital and emerging technologies and raw materials. It focuses on next‑generation AI agents, robotics for industrial and service environments, and advanced materials with enhanced sensing capabilities.
Both calls are aligned with the Commission’s Competitiveness Compass and its goal of securing European leadership in strategic, human‑centric digital technologies. They are open to businesses, public administrations, academic institutions and other organisations from EU Member States and associated countries.
The application window is open until 15 April 2026.
