Scientific networks call for stronger recognition as strategic actors in EU science diplomacy
The Guild, the COST Association, the MCAA (Marie Curie Alumni Association, and the U7+ Alliance call for stronger recognition of what they see as the often understated but essential role of academic and university networks in building trust, advancing science diplomacy and informing global decision‑making.
The scientific networks call for better recognition of the proactive but often discreet role of scientific networks of universities and academics for science diplomacy: underpinning trust, carrying out vital science diplomacy and contributing to global decision-making.
The signatories have published a communiqué based on reflections from their jointly organised side event to the 2nd European Science Diplomacy Conference held in Copenhagen in December 2025, conclusions from the overall Science Diplomacy Conference in the context of the upcoming Council Recommendation on Science Diplomacy which is part of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
