Six new members and three Vice Presidents join ERC Scientific Council
The European Commission has appointed six new members to the Scientific Council, the governing body of the European Research Council (ERC). In addition, the term of one current member has been renewed. The Council has also elected three new Vice Presidents. All changes will take effect as of 1 January 2026.
The new Scientific Council members, appointed for an initial four‑year term, are:
- Michel Campillo, professor emeritus of geophysics, University of Grenoble, France
- Emmanuelle Charpentier, Nobel laureate and director of the Max Planck Unit for the Science of Pathogens, Berlin, Germany
- Kateřina Králová, professor of contemporary history, Institute of Ethnology (CAS) and Charles University, Prague, Czechia
- Susana Narotzky, professor of social anthropology, University of Barcelona, Spain
- Karin Roelofs, professor at the Donders Institute and Behavioural Science Institute, Radboud University, Netherlands
- Eleftheria Zeggini, director of the Institute of Translational Genomics, Helmholtz Munich, Germany
From among its members, the Scientific Council has elected three new Vice Presidents: Liselotte Højgaard (life sciences), Torsten Persson (social sciences and humanities), and Nicola Spaldin (physical sciences and engineering). All are active researchers and will continue their scientific work alongside their new roles.
