Commission appoints Maive Rute as Deputy Director-General of the Joint Research Centre
The European Commission has appointed Ms Maive Rute to the post of Deputy Director-General of the Joint Research Centre (JRC), with effect from 1 September 2026. Ms Rute brings more than 30 years of experience in innovation, economic transformation and investment. Her expertise covers macroeconomic policy, climate and energy transition, standardisation and public procurement, as well as close cooperation with EU institutions, industry and academia.
An Estonian national, Ms Rute is currently Deputy Director-General at the Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG GROW). She previously served as Deputy Director-General at the JRC, overseeing research in energy, transport and climate.
