EOSC meetings mark progress towards fully operational federation
The European Commission welcomed the 28 EOSC Nodes of the EOSC Federation build-up group to their fifth in-person meeting in Brussels on 7 and 8 July, alongside representatives of 34 ongoing and upcoming Horizon Europe-funded EOSC projects for the fifth annual coordination meeting of EOSC projects on 8 and 9 July. Representatives of the EOSC Steering Board and the EOSC Association also took part.
A joint session brought both communities together to review progress, strengthen cooperation and prepare the next phase of EOSC development, as the EOSC Federation moves closer to full operations.
A key milestone was the participation of representatives from the 14 second-wave EOSC Nodes selected in April 2026 by the EOSC Tripartite Governance. These include national Nodes in the Czech Republic, Croatia, Latvia, North Macedonia, Sweden, Slovenia, Switzerland and Türkiye; pan-European e-infrastructure Nodes through GÉANT, EGI and Scholarly Commons; and thematic Nodes by METROFOOD-RI, EBRAINS RI and ENVRI.
The meetings also marked the first gathering of 13 new projects funded under the Horizon Europe Work Programme 2025. These projects will help advance EOSC in areas such as artificial intelligence, skills and training, and the further development of the Federation.
As Europe’s common data space for research and innovation, EOSC supports access to and reuse of research data and services across borders. Under Horizon Europe, the Commission is investing around €500 million in EOSC, with further support planned beyond 2027.
